The Path That Led me to Neurofeedback

After graduating from Lesly University with a Master's in Education, I continued my education, becoming certified as a Reading Recovery Teacher and later as a Literacy Coach, working with teachers and students to implement research-based practices to increase student achievement. Many of my students were very bright yet struggled in various ways. I looked for ways to address the root of the issue. “If only I could take a look at the brain I would know how best to help,” I often wondered. I became fascinated with the brain and continuously sought ways to reach struggling students.

At the same time, I watched someone I love suffer from anxiety and depression. I felt helpless, desperate for a way to make life better by addressing the root of the problem in a natural way. My research led me to Neurofeedback. I discovered it was a non-invasive, drug-free approach to help improve many symptoms, and it had decades of research supporting its efficacy.

My First Experience with Neurofeedback

As my loved one began neurofeedback sessions, I noticed positive results after a few sessions, which I later learned was pretty average. I knew for sure it had made a difference when I noticed my loved one facing and overcoming daily challenges independently; the same challenges that previously had been crippling.

My biggest question at that point was whether or not these changes would become permanent.  It turns out that they are, if we train the brain to the point that new connections are sufficiently created and established (a phenomenon called neuroplasticity, which refers to the brain’s ability to reshape and remodel itself.)

After witnessing the transformation that took place following neurofeedback with my loved one, I knew I wanted to share this hope with others - that there is a safe and effective alternative available.. I began training with New Mind Technologies and have continue to receive ongoing training and mentoring.  Since 2018, I have focused on training in brain health, qEEG Brain Mapping, and neurofeedback and opened Aroostook Brain Training in 2021.

While I have always had a passion to help children, I began to discover how Neurofeedback could help people of all ages.

Every client is different and presents new challenges, and it is extremely exciting to see their symptoms and lives improve through not only neurofeedback, but also proper nutrition, sleep habits, and lifestyle changes that all factor into a brain that is at peak performance. A personal quest became my passion to help others. I use neurofeedback to help children, teens, adults, and senior citizens with symptoms associated with:

ADD/ ADHD

Learning Challenges

Anxiety

Depression

Autism/ Aspergers

Insomnia

PTSD / Memory

About Me

Other things to know about me are that my husband and I have three children, a beagle, and a few chickens. I enjoy reading, especially historical fiction. I'd love to be able to time travel and explore other time periods (for a day). I love being outside and find ways to make the most of every season Maine has to offer. I find nature to be an optimal way to recharge my batteries. I  enjoy baking and find it hard to resist a homemade cookie, though I constantly look for ways to make a healthier option for favorite treats.  I do neurofeedback training as often as I can and try to continually grow daily personally, professionally, and spiritually.
